About Us
In a subterranean room of a suburban Northern Virginia residence 35 miles west of Washington, D.C., you will find a humble workshop perpetually covered in sawdust, aka Victor & Theo HQ. This small shop is where the magic happens.
Let there be light. After relocating to Northern Virginia in 2017, the daily slog through DC-area traffic coupled with working in an uninspired office building (ironically for an architecture firm) finally took its toll after two years. I was initially reluctant to step away from the architecture profession — something that I had done for 20 years. Unemployed for the first time since my teens, I now had an abundance of time and took to rock climbing and reading as a personal safeguard from an existential crisis. During this time, I thought about what drew me to architecture: model-making, designing, and problem-solving to name a few. Working with my hands — building things — is what I truly enjoy. Armed with this revelation, I followed the light…straight into my basement.
Ready, set, pause. Slowness in craft is an exercise in patience and tenacity. I was getting acquainted with my new shop when the pandemic hit. Among suspended work lives, I was still moving forward, albeit at glacier speed. I took time to learn and re-learn hand-tooling techniques and hone my workflow.
For the first time in a long time, I am working with my hands and heeding the advice of the great Charles Eames who said, "Take your pleasure seriously."
